According to Reuters, the 19-year-old student was seen leaving the University of Southern California (USC) chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon party on Saturday and he told his friends he wanted to go for a walk. The accident was just a mile away from the USC campus.

Fox News reported that the woman who struck him said that Vasquez ran in front of her car just east of Vermont Avenue and she was not able to avoid driving towards him because he suddenly appeared in front of the car.

The victim was not identified immediately because he was not carrying any identification. The investigation is still ongoing and the driver was reportedly not charged by the LAPD.

Aurora Cardenas, a friend of Vasquez, reportedly got a phone call from the teenager and he asked her to come over and help him. She then asked where he is but Vasquez responded that he did not know which part of Los Angeles was he and that he was lost.

The family of Vasquez has asked for privacy in their time of grieving. Vasquez was a graduate of the Marin Academy high school in San Rafael as per the website of UC Berkeley.
