United States of America President Barack Obama has made ascertain to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta that his visit in Kenya in July will still push through despite the recent terrorist attack on a Kenyan University where over 140 people were killed.
Obama spoke on phone to President Kenyatta on Friday where he expressed and extended his deepest sympathies to the lives that were lost during the terrorist attack on Garissa University College on Thursday, according to The Nation. He assured the Kenyan President that the US government will stand with them to face the insurgency.
He said that there are no enough words to condemn the terrorist atrocities that took place in Kenya where innocent men and women were brazenly and brutally massacred, NBC News reports.
In a presidential statement, Obama said: "We will stand hand-in-hand with the Kenyan Government and people against the scourge of terrorism and their efforts to bring communities together."
Obama also made a promise that he will make good on his plan to visit Kenya for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) which will be held in Nairobi in July, in reference to Forbes. He reiterated as well that he is keen to meeting with President Kenyatta in July.
Obama will be a co-host in GES as part of his fourth presidential trip to Africa. It would be the first time that the summit will be taking place in Africa wherein business owners, educators, policymakers, and investors to support the growth of new enterprises in developing regions are brought together. The main goal of the summit is to empower marginalized groups-particularly women and youth-through entrepreneurship.
According to White House press release, the fact that Kenya was chosen as the destination for GES, highlights that it has become a center for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Obama will be holding bilateral talks during the trip with the aim of strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
