Nina Dobrev has confirmed through an Instagram post that she is set to leave "The Vampire Diaries." Executive producer Julie Plec also mentioned in a statement that Dobrev will leave the CW show.

"I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn't just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime," Nina Dobrev wrote on an Instagram post. The post is addressed to "The Vampire Diaries" family.

In the Instagram post, the actress recalled the entire journey of her character Elena. She stated that there is more to come in "The Vampire Diaries" Season finale in May. She has promised to her fans that they will get to know all about her experiences as the show progresses towards the season finale.

Meanwhile, according to TV Line, Julie Plec stated that "saying goodbye to Nina is both bittersweet and beautiful."

"We will miss Nina and the four hundred characters she played, but we look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore Brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble."

Plec also said in the statement that the complete cast and crew of the show are very close to each other after spending more than six years together. Apart from Nina Dobrev, Michael Trevino, who portrays Tyler Lockwood in "The Vampire Diaries," is also quitting the show in order to explore other opportunities.
