Actor Jonathan Crombie, who played the role of Gilbert Blythe on "Anne of Green Gables" passed away due to brain hemorrhage at the age of 48.

Crombie's sister, Carrie Crombie confirmed the devastating news of his passing to CBC on Saturday.

"He was funny, he was sweet, he loved acting, he loved comedy and singing and dancing. As a little kid, he just loved Broadway shows and all of that kind of stuff and would sing and dance in the living room," she recounted

Talking about his role on "Anne of Green Gables," Carrie revealed how proud her brother was of his role on the hit Canadian television drama, according to the Daily Mail.

"Anne of Green Gables" producer also spoke to the same publication to reveal how they discovered the late actor an how he was tapped to join the series even though he was not screen-tested for it.

"We met him and he was cast. It was a perfect storm. It all worked perfectly. I think for legions of young women around the world who fell in love with 'Anne of Green Gables' films, Jonathan really represented the quintessential boy next door," Kevin Sullivan said.

The producer also believes that many of Crombie's fans would be extremely devastated over the news of his untimely death.

"I think there will be hundreds of people who will be floored that this has happened. It's such a devastating tragedy," he said.

Meanwhile, Crombie also starred in "Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story" in 2002.
