HBO has been emailing thousands of infringement warnings to internet subscribers whose net connections were used to download leaked "Game Of Thrones" season 5 episodes.
Thousands of emails have been sent to all internet subscribers who have downloaded the"Game Of Thrones" season 5 episode leaks. Though there are no legal issues connected for the subscribers, the media company is hoping that these people will think again before trying to download future episodes.
The first set of leaked videos was four of the "Game Of Thrones" season 5 episodes which were downloaded millions of times across public torrent online. This is one of the most conspicuous piracy cases in the history of HBO TV, Torrent Freak reported.
The first copies came from a review screener who leaked it online which spread like wildfire so quickly. Most of the piracy act was made through torrent downloads but HBO wanted to focus more on a few dozen who were able to watch online streaming through Periscope by Twitter.
Based on the anti-piracy partner IP-Echelon, HBO started to tell internet providers to contact such subscribers and take the necessary action. The media company disclosed to Huffington Post that the anti-piracy act that it is doing is basically standard operating procedure.
The appropriate consequence that HBO wanted to implement to the internet subscribers associated with the infringing IP address is to have their ISPs disconnect the accounts of repeating violators. Users will know they are one of the infringers once they see their download was flagged.
HBO is hopeful that with these warnings, piracy will be stopped and future downloading of the coming episodes will be prevented.
