A woman from Utah pleaded guilty to the deaths of her six newborn babies and was sentenced with at least 30 years to life in prison on April 20, Monday.

The woman, identified as Megan Huntsman, 40, hid the bodies of her newborn children in her garage as she was too addicted to methamphetamine to be able to properly take care of more children, Fox News reported.

According to court papers obtained by the publication, Hunstman wanted to take responsibility of the deaths of her children. She was given six counts of murder in February by Judge Darold McDade. The parole board will be deciding later if she can still be released or if she will spend the rest of her life in prison.

Huntsman is from Pleasant Grove just 45 miles south of Salt Lake City. The killings shattered the small community because majority of the people living in the area are Mormons.

The woman stored the babies for more than 10 years and her estranged husband, Darren West, was the one who discovered the bodies in April 2014. A seventh baby was found in the garage but was also dead and West claims he is the father of the said baby. West and Huntsman have three more children together.

Police officials shared that these babies were killed from 1996 to 2006 and were either strangled or suffocated immediately after being born. The bodies of the babies were wrapped in cloth then placed in plastic bags and packed in boxes.

Huntsman vacated the house and left the boxes behind. That was when West saw the babies after he was released from a federal prison because of meth charges. West lived with Huntsman from 1996 to 2006 but he did not comment if he knew about what Huntsman did but he is not being investigated by police officials.

It remains unclear how the woman killed her babies or how she hid her pregnancy from people she knew, NBC News reported.
