"Grey's Anatomy" might bid goodbye to its fan-favourite character Derek Shepherd during Season 11 Episode 21, according to a report. Patrick Dempsey, the actor who has played Derek aka McDreamy, has reportedly been suspended from the show and may not return as a series regular.
According to New York Post's Page Six, Dempsey's "diva behaviour" on the sets of "Grey's Anatomy" has forced the showrunner Shonda Rhimes to take the decision about bringing an end to Derek's storyline. A source reportedly told the abovementioned publication that Dempsey "has been acting like diva" and has engaged in conflicts with Rhimes.
It is said that the creator has suspended the actor for a while. And rumours from the set claim Dempsey "isn't coming back full time."
"Given all the past problems with Katherine Heigl and Isaiah Washington, there is little tolerance on the show for troublesome talent," the source added.
Derek has been away for most part of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 11. After Sandra Oh's exit in the Season 10 finale, Dempsey's character was sent to Washington DC for a new job. This led to rampant speculations about Dempsey's exit.
In the most recent episode of the show, Derek remained unreachable for his wife Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). The segment ended with a cliffhanger leaving fans wondering if Derek is dead already.
Previously, however, the actor hinted at his exit "very soon." Speaking to Portland Press Herald in November 2014, Dempsey said that he would now like to produce TV shows and films while he continues with his acting career.
But fans will have to wait for an official announcement from the actor and associated persons to know for sure if Dempsey will be leaving the show after Season 11.
But Latin Post is speculating that the character may die in the upcoming episode titled "How to Save a Life." As per the spoilers, Derek will try to save lives of those involved in ghastly car crash. However, this may put Derek's life in danger.
"Next Thursday, nothing can prepare you for what happens next. This is the episode America will never forget," says the voiceover in the promo video (via Youtube.com/Television Promos) for Episode 21. Fans must note these are mere speculations and what really happens remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Hollywood Life note that Dempsey's representative has denied the truth behind the story about his suspension and possible exit from "Grey's Anatomy."
