Showtime's "Happyish," the network's newest tragedy-comedy series, recently received a slew of mixed reviews from fans and critics.
The sitcom, directed by Shalom Auslander will premiere this coming Sunday.
According to multiple publications, the performances of the actors in the new sitcom can be dubbed as good and the writing of the script by the writers could be described as witty and brainy.
However, the sitcom seems to greatly invest on the "ish" on its title, making the series more of an unhappy sitcom and a really "happy" one, according to SF Chronicle.
On the upcoming premiere episode, Thom Payne (Steve Coogan) will be celebrating his 44th birthday with his wife Lea (Kathryn Hahn) and their good friends Bella and Barry (Molly Price and Andre Royo) and their sons.
Thom works in advertising; however, his company is now being run by two nonsense men named Gotfrid and Gustaf. Thom's colleague Jonathan (Bradley Whitford) is an alcoholic who wants to impress their younger bosses.
Meanwhile, Auslander recently spoke with the Associated Press to give audiences and insight on what they could possibly expect from the upcoming sitcom.
"In everything I write, my goal is, 'Ha, ha, ha, ouch,'" he said.
Coogan, who replaced the late Philip Seymour Hoffman said, "I talked to Shalom a lot before I pulled the trigger to move forward. The reason I'm doing it, with the greatest respect to Philip Seymour Hoffman, is because of the quality of writing. I read those lines and I thought I would like to say them."
Hoffman previously shot for the pilot episode of "Happyish" before he passed away last year at the age of 46.
