Different sectors launched numerous reading events in Beijing even before the annual celebration of the World Book Day.

According to China Daily, events like book discussions by distinguished authors as well as classic book recitals and reading activities online will also take place from April to July.

In this year's celebration, every bookstore in Beijing will exhibit different qualities of readers.

Events for young people like picture-book sharing in Xidan Book Building and conference with musicians and writers in Sanlian Bookstore will take place, as well as discussion about international affairs with diplomats in the Wangfujing Xinhua bookstore.

A 12-hour late-night reading marathon will also take place at One-Way Space bookstore.

The 10th Wenjin Book Award winners will be announced by the National Library of China on the day of the World Book Day on April 23, wherein the board of judges, which are the prominent librarians of China, will select the 10 best books from 1,400 titles, China Daily reported.

The winning books over the past decades will also be exhibited.

A Book-Exchange Market where readers can exchange books with others have also been launched by 14 libraries in the Capital Library.

According to the organizers, over 20,000 reading materials were traded in by 1,500 bibliophiles.

A free online reading will be launched by the National Library of China on Thursday, where over 33 million books from different fields will be shared.

Han Yongjin, director of the National Library of China, told China Daily that public libraries are responsible for preserving society's cultural legacy and educating the public, as well as being an advocate for reading.

Through the activities launched at and prior to the World Book Day, people will be encouraged to value reading.
