"The Avengers: Age of Ultron" was recently released and one of its cast members, Robert Downey Jr. couldn't help but say that the film's success was far more than what they expected.

Back in 2012 when the cast of "Avengers" got together to film the movie, Downey Jr. admitted that none of them really had an idea of what a huge success the franchise could be, according to Contact Music.

"I don't think any of us really expected how huge the first one would be, so it can almost intimidate you a bit because you're like, 'Oh, well we were just kinda hoping it would work out' and now there's this expectation to deliver," he said during an interview with Channel 4.

"The Avengers" became the third-highest grossing film of all time, following in the league of "Titanic" and "Avatar."

"You also hope that it just defies expectation and then I guess this time around we just really wanted people not to say, 'Well, that's alright; the first one was great so we saw it anyway,'" he explained.

The "Iron Man" star also talked about his relationship with film director Joss Whedon and said that he has so much respect for him.

"It's a respect, you know? And every director/actor relationship is so different and Joss is very in control and really wants to have authorship over things, so I think for me it was just about being a little bit more receptive," he said.

"The Avengers: Age of Ultron" is currently on its first week of release.
