There at least two historical things that took place on May 2: "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling apologized for the death of Fred Weasley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. won over Manny Pacquiao via unanimous decision in the "Fight Of The Century."
"Today I would just like to say: I'm really sorry about Fred. *Bows head in acceptance of your reasonable ire*," Rowling tweeted referring to the "Harry Potter" character's death during the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998.
It must be noted, however, that Rowling chose May 2 to apologize for killing off Fred Weasley not because of the highly anticipated Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. The date of the "Fight Of The Century" just coincided the 17th anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts in "Harry Potter," Entertainment Weekly noted.
In another tweet on the same day, Rowling announced, "I thought I might apologise for one death per anniversary. Fred was the worst for me, so I started with him."
Meanwhile, Mayweather Jr. showed some reporters the $100 million check he won after beating Pacquiao on May 2.
"No pictures, though," CBS News quoted Mayweather Jr. as saying, "Don't want any pictures of it."
The $100 million check was only a down payment for the May 2 fight. He can still double the amount with the pay-per-view sales. Moreover, it is expected that an estimated $500 million in revenue will be counted in pay-per-view sales, tickets, concessions and merchandise.
Mayweather Jr. currently holds the WBC, WBO and WBA welterweight titles but he is set to all the belts by May 4, Monday, in order to give younger boxers a chance at them.
