American morning shows became a face-off battle ground on May 7, Thursday when "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara and her ex-fiance Nick Loeb opened up about their feud over frozen embryos in different shows.
The actress called her ex-lover an opportunist while Loeb declared that he is just trying to protect two lives that "have already been created."
Vergara was invited to speak on ABC's show "Good Morning America" where she told the host that Loeb is trying to take advantage of her stardom to promote himself in the name of embryos. She also revealed that the two had signed legal papers beforehand they had gone through in-vitro fertilization, which stated that the embryos could only be used by mutual consent. The star of the upcoming flick, "Hot Pursuit" starring opposite Reese Witherspoon, also criticized the media for giving undue attention to Loeb, who has reportedly taken legal action to gain control of the two frozen female embryos.
"Why is the press allowing somebody to invent things and create press for himself?" said the 42-year-old actress. "He's not an actor. He's not a celebrity. It's like, why?"
On the other hand, on NBC's "Today Show," Loeb spoke of "moral, legal, ethical concepts" concerning lives that have already been created. He also claimed that the none of the papers they had signed addressed anywhere what would happen if they broke up. Loeb, whose ancestors founded Lehman Brothers, and whose uncle, Edgar Bronfman Sr., own Universal Studios, wrote in an op-ed column in New York Times that he always wanted to have children.
Loeb also has offered to pay all the expenses and take full responsibility for raising the children on his own. He also said that he will have no objection if Vergara agrees to carry the embryos to term and raise them with new fiancé Joe Manganiello as long as he has their joint custody, New York Daily News reported.
