In its drive to be the leader in the Internet of Things industry, Samsung recently unveiled its newest technology called the Artik. It is a tiny circuit board integrated with its own processor, sensors, communication chips and other components.
Samsung released three Artik boards and one of it has a dual-core Samsung processor, Bluetooth capabilities and several other features. According to The Wall Street Journal, the board can be used in wearable devices like smartwatches and will cost less than $10 on the market.
The largest of the three Artik boards is about the size of two postage stamps put together side by side. The board includes all the features that are currently available in Samsung smartphones including an octa-core processor, 32 gigabyte of internal storage as well as video capabilities. Samsung president and chief strategy officer Young Sohn said that the board is ideal for powering home hub devices.
Samsung is also one of the biggest manufacturer of memory chips and as well as processors used by other smartphones. By 2017, Samsung expects that 90 percent of all its devices in the market, ranging from smartphones to refrigerators, will be connecter to the internet. By 2020, Samsung said that all its devices will be connected to the Internet.
In order to fast-track the connection of its devices to the Internet, Samsung announced that all its upcoming products will integrate the Artik technology.
According to USA Today, Samsung unveiled the Artik chip technology along with smart shoe developer Boogio, farming-data sensor manufacturer Weenat and Internet of Things programming device Temboo.
