The sequel to Matt Reeves' "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" gets an official title and it is "War of the Planet of the Apes."

The new title separates the sequel from its predecessors "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," as per Collider.

According to Reeves, the original ending for 2014's "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" went "one step further."

It was presumed that the ending of "Dawn" is the initiation of war between the Apes and the humans, as the international trailer had a shot of a warship. However, it was not actualized in the final film. Instead, the film concluded with an "emotional space" with Caesar.

For the film helmer, production team should conclude the film as "more open," allowing the audience to speculate on the plot of the next story.

The new film title applies pressure on the story itself, as per Cinema Blend.

"War" in the title suggests a higher level of action for the film, separating it from what fans have seen in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."

"War of the Planet of the Apes" centers on the Apes' initiation of war against humans, who will "not forgive." Fans will also see Ceasar become a "Moses figure" in the Ape history. Will the Apes attain the peace that they desire on a "promised land" after the war with humans?

Reeves' 2014 sequel "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" starred Andy Serkis as Caesar and Jason Clark as Malcolm. There are no official details yet as to the plot twist and new characters, so fans have to wait yet for further announcement.

"War of the Planet of the Apes" is slated to premiere on July 14, 2017.
