"It was 25 years ago that Microsoft Solitaire debuted on Windows, and to honor the decades of fun it’s given us all, we’re celebrating with two big competitions," the company wrote in Windows Blog.

The first competition kicked off on May 18, Monday, for the Microsoft employees, to determine who rules the roost, while in the second competition to be held in early June, the company will release the first competition's game challenges for the worldwide players to compete. The tournament will be hosted on June 5, according to a Mashable

First launched with the Windows 3.0 version in the 1990's, the card game has undergone a number of changes with many game spin-offs including FreeCell, Pyramid, Spider, TriPeaks and Klondike.

Though built-in games lineup have changed in the last two and half decades, Solitaire was one of the very few that retained its position in all the versions of Windows, expect in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Users of both the versions can download the Solitaire app from the store. However, Microsoft is reportedly bringing back the card game in Windows 10.

There is no word about how players can participate in the tournament, how winners will be selected, and if there are any prize awards. The company is expected to reveal further details very soon.
