Sunny's latest photos on the Pima Animal Care Center's Facebook page

Generous people from around the country and the world have donated over $20,000 (and counting) for the rehabilitation of Sunny, a female dog found hanging from a tree in Tucson, Arizona last May 12.

Sunny is a German Shepherd-Labrador mix from two to three years old. She was found tied-up near Kino Stadium in Pima County in Tucson by a Good Samaritan who called the police after finding the dog, said News4Tucson.

"She was found hanging from her top jaw tied to a tree, and was hanging with her full weight," said Medical Director of Veterinarian Services Jennifer Wilcox.

"So she has pretty significant trauma to her muscle, and also appears she has some brain trauma."

Sunny was eventually taken to the Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson for treatment and care. The animal shelter has used its Facebook page to post updates and pictures of Sunny, many of which received over 1,000 Likes.

More important, Sunny's plight made it to the news and drew attention around the United States and the world. Kind-hearted persons have donated over $20,000 so far, an amount more than enough to over Sunny's medical bills amounting to $2,500.

The remaining amount is being used for the care of the more than 650 dogs and 300 cats at the shelter, said José Ocaño, director of shelter operations for the Pima Animal Care Center.

He also said Sunny has slowly began to recover and is now being taken care of by a foster mom.

Sunny's foster mom reported on a Facebook post dated May 21 that Sunny is doing fine.

"Sunny seems to be getting better and better, she was feeling well enough to jump on my bed this morning! She sleeps in the sun, she sniffs the kitties, and she goes potty (this last one is actually a BIG deal). All is well in Sunny's foster home - WHEW! We couldn't be happier for everyone's favorite girl".
