Chinese fans of the “Star Wars” film franchise are gearing up for the upcoming screening of the whole space opera series in Chinese cinemas from June 13- 21.

Thanks to the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival, George Lucas's magnum opus (all six movies in the franchise so far) will hit the big screen for the first time ever.

The 2015 edition of the acclaimed international film festival will also mark another first in the history of "Star Wars." It will be the first time that the following "Star Wars" installments will be theatrically screened: "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back," and "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi."

Walt Disney Pictures and SIF festival organizers announced the good news on May 25, Monday.

The executives and festival organizers expect that the screening of the six existing "Star Wars" movies will whet the Chinese moviegoers' appetite for the release of the newest movie installment, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

It's been 10 years since "Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" opened in 2005, and a refresher on one of the most popular film franchises of all time seems like a good idea.

"Star Wars" tells the story of the struggle between good and evil forces in a galaxy "far, far, away." Some of its most popular characters include Darth Vader, Obi Wan Kenobi, Padme Amidala, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker.

Aside from being a highly successful film franchise, "Star Wars" has also branched out to the small screen with several spin-off television series such as "The Clone Wars" and "Droids."

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will hit Chinese cinemas on Dec. 18, 2015.
