"Ant-Man" trailers and posters did not gain controversies from the fans and comic book enthusiasts, but a deadly flaw has been recently seen in the design of superhero's costume.
Costume designers Sammy Sheldon and Ivo Coveney revealed the imperfection behind the "Ant-Man" suit in an interview with Empire.
The designers said that there are a couple of cables sticking out from the side of "Ant-Man"'s helmet and they are designed to let oxygen molecules become breathable for the superhero.
However, Coveney pointed out that the two cables can be viewed as "Ant-Man"'s big weakness, as Yellowjacket can just destroy them and this can kill the smallest protagonist.
Although the cables can be actual killers for "Ant-Man," the designers believe that the costume looks more aesthetic with them on.
As per Cinema Blend, the concept of having cables extending from "Ant-Man"'s helmet has been part of the initial plans of the film and has an intended purpose. Aside from making the costume self-contained, the tubes on the helmet may be related to the "Pym Particles," which enable the superhero to change his size at will.
The said particles were developed by Hank Pym, the original "Ant-Man," and will be portrayed by Michael Douglas in the upcoming film. The Pym Particles came from the serums Douglas has settled and it allowed him to change his subatomic structure.
In addition to the aesthetics, the size-altering particles can be another reason behind the attachment of tubes to "Ant-Man"'s costume.
"Ant-Man" stars Douglas, Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, and Michael Peña.
Directed by Peyton Reed, "Ant-Man" is slated for premiere on July 14.
