Google reveals the new Android M features and how its magic will work on Android devices at the I/O conference. Android M will resolve a lot of tech bugs and the new update is focused on delivering polish and quality.
Android M will improve the web experience with the use chrome custom tabs. Google's Senior Vice President Sundar Pichai shared in the event that they don't know yet what "M" stands for. "For [Android] M, we've gone back to the basics," said Pichai. "We've really focused on polish and quality; we've literally solved thousands of bugs."
Some of the highlights of this new version of the operating system can be broken down (but not limited) to three essential aspects of mobile devices: better app permissions, Android Pay and Android device's battery.
- Better app performance - The app lets you deal with the permissions through the apps' specific features other than going through it all upon installation. The new OS will also improve fingerprint authentication is also being developed, not just for unlocking the device but also for in-store and in-app purchases, according toEngadget.
- Android Pay - Android Pay will enable users to make purchases in NFC-equipped retailers with their phones. It uniquely creates virtual card numbers for every purchase that is more secure than traditional credit cards. According to Google, they are targeting to have more than 700,00 retail locations to support such way of transaction that's going to work with VISA, MasterCard, AmEx and Discover.
- Improved battery - Android M will sport a new feature called Doze that will aid in conserving battery life. As tested by Google, these features can double the battery life of devices. The update also supports USB Type-C cables that allow the faster charging experience.
There is no official release date for Android M yet. App developers can check out Google's special preview released by Android Developers for Nexus 5 and 6 smartphones as well as Nexus 9 tablet Nexus Player.
