Two months following the release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the South Korean company has introduced another smartphone, this time the more active and rugged Samsung Galaxy S6 Active and the reception to the arrival and the timing has been mixed.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active does carve a niche for itself in terms of its potential customers. Given its functional appeal, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is a phone made for the outdoorsy type, Techno Buffalo reported. It packs some extra protection around the edges, an IP 68 rating for water, dust and grime resistance and an Activity Zone for apps that are helpful for those who are always on the go outdoors.

The only thing that Samsung fans may have a beef with is the timing of the reveal date and what could be the biggest and best feature of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active: its battery. The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were released just last April.

The smartphones have been dubbed as Samsung's latest and most innovative devices to date, boasting surprising features even compared to the iPhone 6. These include a bigger RAM at 3GB, more powerful cameras at 5-megapixel for the front and 16-megapixel for the rear and new technology for fast charging.

On the other hand, the much tougher iteration, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active was just release as an exclusive device in the United States last June 12. This came at a contract with AT&T at $199. It also packs a 3500 mAh battery, which is a giant compared to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge's 2560 mAh and 2600 mAh batteries.

Still, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge each have their own advantage when compared to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active. For one thing, the S6 Active is not as sleek as its slimmer counterparts.

Another thing is the limited edition Iron Man version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Granted, the phone is not only a limited edition version but it was also only offered in South Korea, China and Hong Kong.

In China, the popularity of the phone went as far as a version being auctioned off at $91,000, Digital Trends reported. Despite having the same specs as the standard Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, the limited edition offers the appeal of an Iron Man design potentially made the difference.
