"All Of Me" hit maker John Legend has recently shared his reaction to the Charleston church shooting and Kalief Browder's suicide.
Regarding the Charleston church shooting, which law enforcement officials labelled a hate crime, Legend tweeted, "Charleston. My heart hurts."
On June 17, six women and three men were killed, who were all black, at the mass shooting at the historic black church Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina by Dylann Roof, a 21-year-old white male, of Lexington, South Carolina.
One of the killed victims is South Carolina state senator Reverend Clementa Pinckney, who was also a pastor at the church, Huffington Post reported. Roof admitted to shooting the victims he had sat with for Bible study at the historic black church. He told law enforcement officials he wanted to start a race of war.
Before Charleston police released the church area on June 20, Saturday, it was off limits to church members and remained a crime scene. Before people filled the seats of the historic black church for services again on June 21, the Emanuel AME presiding elder Reverend Norvel Goff told CNN he will give the sermon.
Days prior to the Charleston church shooting, Legend penned an essay published in Vulture to express his opinion about Bowder's suicide, which leads to the reassessment of New York City's shady court and prison system.
According to "Lip Sync Battle" host Chrissy Teigen's husband, New York failed Browder, who was 16 when he incarcerated without a trial for an alleged robbery in 2010. The Oscar award-winning singer-songwriter wrote, "The list of things that went wrong in his case begins with his first encounter with the NYPD, whose practice of targeting black teens is well documented."
