With the record-breaking triumph of Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World," paleontologist and "Jurassic World" advisor Jack Horner reveals the inspiration of the Indominus rex.
Horner told Yahoo Movies that the Indominus rex is inspired from a dinosaur called Therizinosaurus, which is white in color and has grasping arms. In addition, the Therizinosaurus has a height of 30 feet, making it shorter than the Indominus, which stands 44 feet tall.
Paleontologists gave Therizinosaurus a name, which means "scythe lizard," after they thought that the dinosaur's claws were turtle ribs. In fact, the dinosaur was not a carnivore and it utilized its arms and claws as its forms defense against other dinosaurs that threaten it.
The Indominus rex is a hybrid dinosaur that serves as the new attraction in the Jurassic World theme park. The hybrid is created under the oversight of Dr. Henry Wu, who is played by BD Wong.
Aside from possessing the DNAs of the Tyrannosaur rex, Velociraptor, cuttlefish, and snake, the hybrid is shown to be able to communicate with other dinosaurs in the theme park like the Velociraptors and the Pteranodons. The Indominus also has prehensile hands, making it deadlier and more fearsome.
With the Indominus rex contributing to the success of "Jurassic World," it is likely that Universal studio will make the most of it to work on a sequel, according to Cinema Blend. While there was no announcement yet about a "Jurassic World" sequel, fans have already made some speculations.
Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" stands as the fourth installment of the "Jurassic Park" franchise and is set 22 years after the events in Isla Nublar in Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" in 1993.
