A new born baby girl in India with looks akin to an elderly woman has been rejected by her parents but is fortunate enough to have a loving and caring grandfather to take good care of her.

Doctors suspect it could be a case of a rare medical condition described as Intra-Uterine Growth Retardation (IUGR) and some chromosomal abnormality that has rendered the girl her unusual looks. Her mother, Mamata Dode, delivered the baby seven months into her pregnancy but has refused to even feed her ever since.

The Dodes have a perfectly healthy three year old daughter. The parents also claimed they have been under regular supervision of the local health department but were never warned by the officials there of the baby's condition. It was a normal delivery with the baby weighing 800 grams during birth, Mirror reported.

The girl's grandfather, Dilip Dode who works as a laborer initially fed the yet unnamed girl with goat milk but was forced to seek expert medical intervention as the girl's condition worsened, Huffington Post reported. Fortunately for him, doctors and staff at the Wadia Hospital in Mumbai have been good enough to arrange for free treatment which otherwise is estimated to top out at $8,000 or more. The hospital has arranged for Mr Dode's accommodation as well.

"She was dehydrated when she came to us and any further delay could have proven fatal," said Wadia Hospital CEO Dr. Minnie Bodhanwala.

However, hospital sources have stated it could be a long drawn process though the good thing now is that the baby is responding to treatments.
