With Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" continuing to dominate theaters, its executive producer Steven Spielberg is now working on another Michael Crichton novel, "Micro."
According to The Wrap, Dreamworks Studios has secured the rights to Crichton's "Micro," which was the last book the author was working on before he passed away in 2008. After Crichton's death, Harper Collins selected "The Hot Zone" author Richard Preston to continue working on the novel using Crichton's notes.
Published in 2011, "Micro" is Crichton's second retrospective novel and it centers on a group of graduate students who heads to the headquarters of mysterious scientific research company in Hawaii. The main characters of the story were transformed into small-sized creatures and end up stranded in the center of the rainforest.
The plot of the story may resemble a blend of the iconic "Jurassic Park" franchise and Peyton Reed's upcoming Marvel film "Ant-Man."
For Spielberg, he is delighted to make another film adaptation of another Crichton novel, as per Cinema Blend. He added that the author's works manipulate the concept of size, such as the huge dinosaurs in "Jurassic Park" and "Micro's" tiny humans.
Crichton's literary works are usually under the action genre and instill the concept of technology. Aside from "Jurassic Park" and "Micro," Crichton's other works include "Pirate Latitudes," "Next," and "State of Fear," among others. The author was also the creator of the television series "ER."
"Micro" is still under development and Spielberg and DreamWorks have not yet made an official announcement with regard to the film plot, cast, and release date. With the success of Trevorrow's "Jurassic World," fans may receive more information soon.
