"Roar" singer Katy Perry is embroiled in a legal battle with two nuns over the ownership of a sprawling convent that overlooks the San Gabriel Mountains.

The singer will head to court over ownership issues of the Immaculate Heart Of Mary Convent with two nuns who claim Perry should not be the owner after the singer purchased the property for US$14.5 million, according to the Daily Mail.

The Los Feliz California property in downtown Los Angeles according to the British website has been purchased by Perry from the Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez.

The confusion over ownership arose when two nuns of the convent, aged 88 and 70, respectively, alleged that they had already accepted an offer from a restaurateur who has already paid the sisters US$ 1 million more than what Perry had offered and moved in, according to the British website.

The two sisters of the convent according to the Los Angeles Times sold the property to Dana Hollister a restaurant owner two weeks back. Subsequently, the nuns had come to understand Archbishop Gomez had sold the property to Perry and claimed the nuns did not own the property and as such have no right to sell it.

Decades ago, five sisters of the convent pooled their resources to purchase the property, which is why they have claimed themselves as the rightful owners. Three of the sisters of the convent have passed away.

The two remaining sisters of the convent who are now blocking the sale allege that the three sisters who signed over their right to the property giving them to the Archbishop did so under duress prior to their deaths.

The singer and the nuns met last month and sang an impromptu version of the gospel hymn "Oh Happy Day" according to the publication.

For the sisters of the property, the "Dark Horse" singer's pop music persona is one of the reasons they feel uncomfortable in offering the convent.
