A new open-world action RPG will be making its way to gaming consoles by next year. 

"ELEX", a new post-apocalyptic Science Fiction video game, will feature a whole different world from those already established by popular gaming titles, including "Halo" and "StarCraft".

According to the video game's official summary, "ELEX" will put "players into a huge, seamless game world full of original characters, mutated creatures, deep moral choices and powerful action."

The new title will be a collaboration between "Gothic" series developers, Piranha Bytes, and Swedish game publishers, Nordic Games. "This is by far the most ambitious project for Piranha Bytes and Nordic Games to date," the official announcement by Nordic read. 

"ELEX", which stands for Eclectic, Lavish, Exhilarating and Xenial, will be "edgy, dark, compromising, complex," described Nordic Games' Business & Product Development Director, Reinhard Pollice. He also made sure people knew how happy they are with the project, emphasizing that excited is an "understatement".

Björn Pankratz, Game Director at Piranha Bytes, also confirmed that the team will have creative freedom in developing the title which will offer a new world of possibilities. 

The video game will be officially announced at Gamescom 2015 in August, reports TechTimes. The video game trade fair will be held at Koelnmesse in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany from August 6 to 9. 

"ELEX" is scheduled to be released in Winter 2016/ 2017 for PC and current generation consoles.
