Johnny Depp's "Pirates of the Caribbean" co-star Michael Enright abandoned his comfort zone as an actor in Los Angeles and went to Syria to join Kurdish fighting force against the militant group ISIS.

After starring in Hollywood movies "Old Dogs," "Agents old S.H.I.E.L.D" and "Cold Case," Enright travelled to Syria in January to a war-ravaged region of Rojava. He spent several weeks in Kurdish YPG Academy training program with other Western volunteer fighters.

Enright sleeps in a bombed-out homes with over 100-degree heat and stand in the line of enemy to eradicate the brutal terrorist group, Fox News reported.

"After I saw the cowardly way James Foley was killed, I knew I had to do something," Enright said of the Amercian journalist beheaded by the terrorist group.

ISIS, the militant group, recently attacked the city of Kobani and massacred around 200 Kurdish civilians, killing women and beheading children. Enright witnessed how ISIS fighters fired gunshots early in the morning as a signal for a celebration for the said successful attack.

Since Enright is an actor, there were allegations that he only went to Syria for publicity and that he planned to use his own experience to write his own story. The actor denied the rumor and said that he does not care about popularity, Mail Online reported.

Enright was also accused of being mentally unstable by the former United States soldier Jordan Matson, who wrote on Facebook that the actor should get out of Syria fight before he gets killed by some of the Westerners and Kurds. Enright denied Matson's accusations and said he could not imagine why Matson would write such post.

Being in the global fight is not new to Enright. Before joining Syria war, he also joined India and Kolkata war in his early 20s. He has photos taken 20 years ago while working with the refugees of Rwandan Genocide.
