"Grey's Anatomy" star Caterina Scorsone, who plays the role of Derek Shepherd's sister Amelia, recently opened up about her onscreen brother's shocking death in season 11.
In an interview with Design N Trend, Scorsone said that the new was so devastating and it shocked her and the entire cast of "Grey's Anatomy." The actress also revealed that her biggest concern following Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) death was how Amelia will survive without him.
The actress also revealed what Amelia will miss most about her brother. According to her, everything about Derek will be missed, especially how he stood in place of their real father while she was growing up. Due to this, Amelia learned to lean on Derek and saw him not just as a brother but also as her father figure.
Although Derek died in season 11, fans are speculating that the impact of his demise will continue to affect some of the cast members on the show. More specifically, Amelia and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) will most likely suffer most from his death.
With this, there are speculations that Amelia's relationship with Owen, as well as other guys will be jeopardized. Meanwhile, Meredith's relationship with her family and her fellow doctors will also be affected tremendously.
Series creator Shonda Rhimes previously confirmed that this will be the case when she said that big changes will take place in the lives of the doctors following Derek's death, according to Realty Today.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will premiere on ABC this coming September 24 at 8 p.m. ET
