"The Wolverine" actor Hugh Jackman has revealed that he will be playing the role of the adamantium-clawed mutant in the 2017 sequel to the 2013 film directed by James Mangold.
On July 28, Jackman tweeted his photo as Wolverine on his official Twitter account. The photo quite differed from his other photos as the superpowered mutant, as he only raised one blade of his metallic claws. The said image is also in black and white, along with the hashtag "#ONELASTTIME" at the right side.
The Australian actor said in his caption that it was the last time he would put on his claws in Marvel's Cinematic Universe. His photo got more than 7,000 re-tweets and more than 10,000 favorites.
Jackman has become more comfortable with playing "Wolverine" as time passed by since Singer's "X-Men" in 2000, according to Bam! Smack! Pow!. His personification for Wolverine has made them one and the same that fans want him to stay in Marvel as the iconic "X-Men" mutant.
Before Jackman's last reprisal as Wolverine in 2017, he will be seen in upcoming films, such as Gar Goddard and Bryan Singer's musical "Broadway 4D," Joe Wright's adventure-fantasy film "Pan," Dexter Fletcher's sport-drama film "Eddie the Eagle," Michael Gracey's musical drama "The Greatest Showman on Earth," and Singer's upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" in 2016.
Aside from Jackman playing the role of the iconic self-regenerating mutant, Patrick Stewart is reported to take part in the big screen reprising his role as the old Charles Xavier/ Professor X. Stewart told Oregon Live that he would not be part of Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse," but his co-actor Ian McKellen would be.
Mangold is staying on the director's chair to helm the upcoming "Wolverine" project while "Green Lantern" producer and writer Michael Green is on board to pen the screenplay of the film. Along with them, Stan Lee and Lauren Shuler Donner are producing the film.
Mangold's untitled "Wolverine" sequel is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on March 3, 2017.
