Car manufacturer General Motors recently announced that it will issue a recall order for 82,620 units of its Cadillac ATS sedans in regions encompassing several regions in the world. The recall was due to the same power sunroof problem that caused General Motors to recall more than 67,000 units earlier this year.
In February, GM recalled its Cadillac ATS model 2013-2015 sedans. The reason for the recall was due to the malfunctioning power-operated roof panel systems. The roof panel malfunction causes it to auto-close every time non-recessed part of the "Tilt" or "Slide" switches are pressed.
Since the switches are not fully recessed, it can be closed with minimal force compared to the requirement imposed by federal standards. The recall will also include 2016 models and will comprise 7,900 vehicles from Canada.
According to a press release from GM spokesperson Alan Adler obtained by Detroit News, 70 percent of the cars recalled "originally will need to come back for dealers to replace the rook console accessory switch trim plate and 2016 models were added to the recall."
The company claim that no injury, crash or fatality was reported or associated to the reported malfunction. Owners of affected models can simply bring their vehicles to their respective dealers and the roof console accessory switch trim plate will be replaced. Vehicles that were previously inspected as part of the previous recall will be subjected for re-inspection and repair.
According to Cars.com, the inspection and repair cost of affected vehicles will be waived. Owners of affected vehicles are also advised to call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for more information.
