PBS drama series "Downtown Abbey" is finally shooting its last two week's worth of episodes before the sixth and final season airs early in 2016. Despite their heart-rending farewell, the cast was happy to share some of the season's highlights during their visit to the Television Critics Association on Aug. 1.
"Downtown Abbey" cast Hugh Bonneville who portrays Robert Crawley, Joanne Froggatt who plays Anna Bates, Penelope Wilton who plays Isobel Crawley revealed a number of details with the Television Critics Association. Together with them were Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael and Michelle Dockery who play Cora Crawley, Lady Edith Crawley, and Lady Mary Crawley, respectively.
During the event, Bonneville, who plays one of the biggest characters, finally hinted a transformation in his character in the final episode. Furthermore, the executive producer, Gareth Neame, revealed that the season seeks to underline the end of an era by scaling down and downsizing the cast and prodution.
However, the "Downtown Abbey" producer assured the viewers as Vanity Fair quoted him as saying, "It doesn't come across as sad in the show but it will hopefully make it feel like an ending and we will get to the final episode and the camera will drift away and that is the last time we will ever see [those characters]."
"Downtown Abbey" fans are sure to expect fewer guests and more of their favorite core actors and actresses. For instance, in the upcoming season, the Dowager Countess appears once again to execute her old tricks, TVGuide reported.
The sixth and final season of "Downtown Abbey" will premiere on PBS on Jan. 3, 2016.
