"Ghost Blows Out: The Nine-Story Demon Tower," an upcoming fantasy film based on one of China's most renowned tomb-raider novels, is slated to hit Chinese theaters on the National Day holiday.
The project draws inspiration from the best-selling literary piece "Gui Chui Deng" or "Ghost Blows Out."
The people behind the film title recently unveiled the movie's storyline during a media event.
Lu Chuan, the film's director, said that he has been a long-time fan of the book.
"Since I took the directorial job, I tried to make friends with some tomb raiders," Lu, who has earned the nod of international film critics since his 2004 crime thriller "Kekexili: Mountain Patrol," shared.
The critically acclaimed director also said that the crew has stayed over a month in the remote areas of Gansu Province and Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in order to reprise the gruesome and thrilling spectacles.
Lu remarked that his film's protagonist is akin to the role of Lara Croft, played by Hollywood A-lister Angelina Jolie, of the action film hit, "Tomb Raider." He further stated that his story will center on battles and combats against monsters.
The "Ghost Blows Out" film adaptation also aims to convey the theme of humanity's endless journey and exploration about yet-undiscovered civilizations, Lu revealed.
The movie is top-billed by Taiwan actor Mark Zhao and Chinese mainland's Li Guangjie and Li Chen. The audience will also see world-class performances from an impressive, stellar cast.
The eight-volume novel by Gui Chui Deng was first published in 2007. It has sold over one million copies and has since earned a huge fan base.
The first four volumes' adaptation rights went to Wanda, while the other four were sold to Le Vision Pictures.
Lu's "Ghost Blows Out" will be produced by Le Vision.
