The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were released in September 2014 and with just one month shy of its first year anniversary rumors and speculations have steadily risen on the Internet regarding its successor. The latest of which is the speculation that claims Apple is planning to unveil its newest device on Sept. 9.

In previous months, several leaks have surfaced on the Internet regarding the upcoming device's specs. Some leaked photograph showed that device's rumored chassis, front panel cover and design schematics.

According to BuzzFeed News, sources have confirmed that the Apple plans to hold a special event on Sept. 9. Coincidentally, Apple also held a major event on the same date in 2015.

At this time of the year, the company usually unveils a new device. Speculations claim that the new iPhone will feature the pressure-sensitive Force Touch display just like in the Apple Watch, a new and improved camera and a more powerful chipset. Additionally, many are expecting that the company will also unveil the rumored 12.9-inch iPad Pro during the event.

Speculation about the rumored iPhone became stronger when the Wall Street Journal reported that the tech giant has placed an order to its supplier to begin manufacturing around 85 to 90 million units of the new iPhone models. The two models differ in screen size, one has 4.7-inch screen while the other has a bigger 5.5-inch display.

Subsequent leaks reveal a schematic showing that the new device will be 7.1mm thick and inclusion of a new Near-Field Communication chip which is rumored to be used for the contactless payment service Apple Pay.

While Apple has kept its silence about its upcoming devices, leaks have regularly updated the curious tech community about the upcoming plans of the tech giant.
