In order to compete in the fast changing world of wireless network services, Verizon announced that it will finally ditch the two-year service contracts it usually offers to new customers.
In line with this new announcement, Verizon will introduce new sets of data plans along with a new arrangement that customers will need to pay for their smartphone through a monthly installment plan or they can have the option to pa it outright.
According to Bloomberg, four new data plans will be introduced based on how much data can users share. The new plans are called Verizon Small, Medium, Large and X-Large. Despite the introduction of new customer plans, Verizon said that existing customers can still keep their current plans or they can also opt in and apply for the new ones.
Verizon Wireless vice-president of consumer pricing said in an official statement, "Choosing a wireless plan is now easier than ever. Customers said they don't want to have a lot of math to figure out their best options, and we heard them."
Each of the new plans will have different monthly data cap and prices. The Small plan will have a monthly data cap of 1GB shareable data for $30. The Medium plan will have 3GB shareable data for $45 monthly. The Large plan will have 6GB shareable data for $60 and the X-Large plan will have 12GG shareable data for $80.
Subscribers to the new plan will also get unlimited talk and text on top of their data plan. For users who wants extra data once they exceed their monthly allowance can add $15 per gigabyte of data.
Verizon's new plan will take effect on Aug. 13.
