Nina Dobrev may be reprising her role as Elena in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 much earlier than you think. CW President Mark Pedowitz shared that the producers will welcome Ian Somerhalder's former girlfriend with open arms if she decided to return.

In an interview with TV Line, Pedowitz admitted that they were saddened by Dobrev's decision. He, however, said that the actress did an amazing job in the series for the past six years. He also wanted the actress to know that she is more than welcome to return in case she changes her mind.

Pedowitz also gave recognition to "The Vampire Diaries" executive producers Julie Plec and Caroline Dries for handling Dobrev's exit well. He said that the decision to focus on Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan's (Paul Wesley) was pure genius. He also thought that season 7 will feature more plotlines involving Caroline (Candice Accola) and Bonnie's (Kat Graham) stories.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly series showrunner Plec revealed that Dobrev had mixed feelings in the season 6 finale. She shared that although the actress was devastated when she found out what will happen to Elena, she was dedicated to give it her all.

Dobrev also mentioned that she will be more than willing to return to the series finale given the opportunity. After being with the series for more than six years, the actress said that she wanted to give her character justice. She added that she could not wait to come back and see how the show progressed after she left.
