With James Bobin's "Alice Through the Looking Glass" hitting theaters next year, the upcoming film's plot has been revealed.

Disney has recently held a live-action presentation of the film at the D23 expo in Anaheim, California. According to Cinema Blend, the sequel will follow titular character Alice Kingsleigh, who will be played by "Stoke" actress Mia Wasikowska, as she goes back to the realm called "Underland." Upon her return to the imaginary land, Alice finds out that things are going in the wrong way.

Aside from her unusual discovery, Alice also discovers that the Mad Hatter, who is played by "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp, is becoming dimmer. At that point, she is the only one Underland can rely on before things get worse.

As per Screen Rant, "Alice Through the Looking Glass" will also reveal Alice's return not only to Underland, but also back in Time. In previous film posters, Alice and Mad Hatter are featured walking uncertainly across a sea of partisan clock faces. This implies that the central characters would be having a time travel adventure, making Bobbin's upcoming film part-prequel.

"Alice Through the Looking Glass" also stars Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham carter, Michael Sheen, and Alan Rickman among others.

Bobin is set to helm the film while Tim Burton, Joe Roth, John Scotti, Jennifer Todd, and Suzanne Todd will produce. "Maleficent" writer Linda Woolverton is on board to pen the screenplay, along with the screenplay for Bill Condon's "Beauty and the Beast" and Disney's "Maleficent 2".

"Alice Through the Looking Glass" is slated to premiere in theaters in United States on May 27, 2016.
