A "Zorro" film remake is about to happen, according to Lantica Media Chief Executive Officer Antonio Gennari.

In his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gennari said that each generation had its identifiable version of Zorro. Gennari added that the company is gratified to present a more futuristic Zorro.

Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal has been attached to play the iconic masked hero, as per Empire Online. He is known for Pablo Aguero's "Eva Doesn't Sleep," Jon Stewarts' "Rosewater," and Roman Coppola, Jason Schawrtzman, and Alex Timbers' comedy series "Mozart in the Jungle."

The film remake will be a partnership between Lantica Media and Sobini Films. Gennari will and Sobini Films Chief Executive Officer Mark Amin will be in charge in the film's production.

Albert Martinez Martin of Lantica Pictures is set to co-produce the film with Cami Winikoff and David W. Higgins of Sobini Pictures.

Martin is known for producing Jorge Blacno and Javier Abad's animated comedy film "Planet 51," Michael Radford's crime thriller "Flawless," and Jaume Balaguero's thriller horror "Fragile. Winikoff is known for Martha Collidge's "The Prince and Me" and Mark Jones' "Leprechaun." Meanwhile, Higgins is known for Brad Anderson's "Stonehearst Asylum" and Raja Gosnell's "Big Momma's House."

Meanwhile, Glenn Gers, Brian McGreevy, and Lee Shipman are on board to pen the screenplay. Gers is known for his work like Gregory Hoblit's crime drama film "Fracture," Callie khouri's comedy crime thriller film "Mad Money," and Bruce Davison's family drama "Off Season" while McGreevy and Shipman are known for writing and producing the mystery thriller "Hemlock Groove."

With the "Zorro" film remake in its early phase of development, exact details on the director, characters and cast, plot twists, and release date are yet to be revealed.
