Hariyal, a parrot in India, committed serious verbal assault towards an 85-year-old woman. The parrot had been taken away from its owner by officials.

Janabai Sakharkar, a resident of Maharashtra in India, went to the officials to report the parrot for firing unpleasant words towards her every time she passed by the house of her stepson Suresh Sakharka.

Janabai had complained thrice in the past two years regarding the parrot's behavior. The parrot had been quiet while being observed by the authorities.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that Suresh and Janabai were on a real estate property dispute, The Telegraph reported.

Two possible causes are being considered for the parrot's behavior. The parrot may have heard the two people quarreling and recalled the harsh words uttered by both parties. Another possibility is that Suresh had been training his pet to fire bad words towards Janabai.

To prevent the parrot from causing further disturbance towards the elder lady, and to protect the animal from being involved in a human conflict, Hariyal was taken away from its owner. The parrot is currently being kept in the State's Forestry Department.

According a recent study on animals, the parrot's attachment to its owner enabled it to learn and understand words as well as human situations and emotions. While in the wild, parrots have the need to communicate with each other thus they were able to develop vocal abilities and create distinct sounds. Their ability to produce words is an extension of the skills that they have developed in the wild, The Pet Place reported.
