Based on reports Google Maps is testing a new Android app that allows users to uploaded "epic" pictures of food and beverages, or "foodographs." It is based on the shut-down Tablescape service's mobile mapping app on Google+, which included categories such as Cheesy and Vegetarian.

Although Google closed Tablescape in June, it stated that it was not surrendering its ventures in food photography. The tech giant promised that Tablescape's spirit would exist in future mobile apps, which seems to be happening in Google Maps.

Based on Android Police's reports, Google is launching a new feature for level 3+ local guides. Those are users who have written at least 50 local reviews.

They can now snap images of their meals and drinks, at restaurants and bars. If Google judges the subject interesting to others, the user will get an on-screen alert granting the ability to attach the  photo to a particular location, according to PC Mag.

Google has also set various content policies for foodies' uploaded images. They must be in-focus, not blurry, and not be a selfie image or group photo.

It is not clear if the new feature will only include uploaded photos of food, or if other types of images would be added to Maps. However, only "epic meals" should be uploaded, implying that the feature that will be mostly food-based, according to Slate.

A company spokeswoman told PC Mag that the Google Maps food and beverage function is part of its Local Guides program. It provides people with helpful information about nearby places to enjoy tasty meals, refreshing drinks, and a great ambiance. Then they can choose wisely.
