A tribute to the stunt pilot who died in a plane crash last week will be held at the Atlantic Air Show.
Andrew Wright was scheduled to attempt to break into the Guinness World Record in the Atlantic Air Show this Wednesday. But last Friday during his stunt, Wright died when his plane crashed near Stewart International Airport in Orange County, New York
He was the only person on the Giles 202 aircraft when the crash happened. Initial investigation revealed that the fatal incident may have resulted from an apparent structural failure.
Wright planned to break the record for inverted flat spin. Last year, the record was broken by Spencer Suderman with 81 rotations, topping by 3 rotations the previous record of 78. His scheduled attempt at the Atlantic City Air Show this week would have been the second one, after adverse weather prevented him from breaking the record in Corpus Christi.
The organizers of the Atlantic Air Show issued a statement expressing their sadness over the untimely death of Wright.
“We are saddened by the death of Andrew Wright (Friday), a seasoned and skilled pilot who had been looking forward to inspiring audiences this coming weekend, ” read the statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Andrew’s family and friends. We want to thank everyone for their support during this challenging time.”
Wright was born in Austin, Texas but grew up in Canada. He lived in New Jersey, and then moved back to Austin. Media reports quote him describing himself as a cyber security guy, endearingly calling him hobby of stunt flying as “over-over-the-top”.
