With the Apple Event on Sept. 9 finally here, rumors have shifted from the long expected iPhone 6S to focus on the next generation iPhone 7.

The tech giant Apple maintains the highest level of secrecy so even the official iPhone 6S specs will not leak until the release date. However, the company has a tradition of following a very predictable series, based on history. As a result, the company's tick-tock cycle of iPhone updates in that every other flagship gets thinner than its precursor.

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the next-gen iPhone 7 could be Apple's thinnest smartphone yet, MacRumors reported. Kuo teased that the iPhone 7 will have a thickness of between 6.0mm and 6.5mm, which is close to the measurement of the current iPod touch having a thickness of 6.1mm.

Kuo also warns that the iPhone 7 will not have major upgrades when it comes to the Force Touch and the process by which the company is currently developing the screen of the iPhone 6S, Cult of Mac noted.

He says that it is anticipated that Apple continues the use of in-cell displays in order to attain the new level of thinness, since it is unlikely that the company will even attempt to pursue its increasingly desperate rivals down the route towards 4K smartphone displays.

On the other hand, although the glass-to-glass technology will allow the iPhone to be bezel-free, the technology will have limitations when it comes to making the iPhone as thin as possible.
