The actor has received critical acclaim for his impressive work in "True Detective," an original series created by HBO where he appeared during its first season. Harrelson is currently busy filming LBJ, where he plays President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Harrelson can be seen on the big screen once again this November in the last installment of the "The Hunger Games" franchise "Mockingjay Part 2."

Returning characters to the sci-fi ape flick has not been revealed yet but it has been reported that Gabriel Chavarria will be playing a new character in "War of the Planet of the Apes," Deadline reported.

The plot is still being kept secret but the story continues to revolve around Caesar, the highly intelligent ape who has become the leader of an entire race similar to him. He is portrayed on the big screen via Andy Sekis' award-winning motion capture creation.

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" director Matt Reeves is still at the helm of the project along with screenwriter Mark Bomback and Dylan Clark with Chernin Entertainment as producers.

Earlier interviews with Reeves tells us that Caesar will be seen not as a war leader but more of "the ape Moses," before he eventually transforms to become a "seminal figure in ape history."

"War of the Planet of the Apes" will hit the big screen on July 14, 2017.
