A new "Heroes: Reborn" trailer has been released and it highlights the story that we never thought we'd see - the death of Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere). While the video doesn't show how she died, her death is critical to the ongoing story of the hunt for evolved humans or evos.

The first season of the phenomenal "Heroes" TV series showed how important Claire was.

As ComicBook.com pointed out, "Save the cheerleader, Save the world" was the mantra during that season's first half with Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) and Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) succeeding in saving both.

This time, however, the cheerleader is dead and gone for good, and her dad Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman) devastated and inconsolable because of his beloved daughter's passing.

In the new trailer, we are given a preview of the world that Claire left behind, one that is the product of her worst fears realized. Her father Noah is seen heartbroken over the loss of his daughter who is now inside a morgue.

The mystery, of course, wrapped up in why Claire died and how she has remained dead knowing that she can heal from just about any wound imaginable, including a nuclear explosion, as explained in the recap by NBC season one episode 17 "The Company Man."

"Heroes Reborn" continues the worldwide phenomenon saga with Tim Kring returning as series creator. Kring is developing more complex layers to his original superhero concept.

The series will kick off with 13 episodes as it establishes its connection with "Heroes," before building up its own story arc. The premiere episode will feature ordinary people discovering their special abilities, taking its cue from its predecessor.

"Heroes Reborn" premieres this week with a special 2-hour event on September 24 at 8/7c on NBC.
