The studio behind the critically acclaimed and highly successful "Monument Valley" has created yet another milestone game called "Land's End," this time it's on the virtual reality platform. The London-based studio, Ustwo, announced that the game will be released in October for the Samsung Gear VR headset.
According to Wired, "Land's End" borrows a lot of its gameplay which uses a lot of logic puzzles from "Monument Valley." While "Monument Valley" focused on sharp and isomeric geometries, "Land's End" is designed for a virtual 3D experience that promises softness, texture and obedience to physics.
Since virtual reality video games are still in their infancy when it comes to development, many consider "Land's End" as an experiment in order to figure out what suits best into the medium. It is also a sort of trial-and-error process in order to weed out what works and does not work when it comes to designing virtual reality video games.
Ustwo Games technical director Peter Pashley told The Verge, "We find that a lot of people who are making VR experiences are kind of making quite traditional games. I wanted to make sure that our branding was represented in the early days of VR."
During the early development of "Land's End," its developer considered using a virtual reality camera into "Monument Valley" with hopes that it could deliver a compelling experience. However, the team soon realized that virtual reality is a completely different medium and that the architecture and design of "Monument Valley" did not fit well and does not make sense when rendered into a 3D environment. This is where they started the "Land's End" project.
