"Under the Dome" may have failed to get renewal for a fourth season but the season 3 finale episode surprised everyone by getting the top spot in the ratings game.

According to Zap2It, the CBS series ended with a bang, as it attracted more than 81 percent of its usual audience, adding more than 2.311 million viewers than expected. Following its dip in July, the series definitely finished strong.

Viewers who were surprised by the sudden cancellation of "Under the Dome," however, were not left hanging with the finale. The producers made sure that most of the questions were answered by the end of season 3.

Speaking to TV Line, Neal Baer revealed that although they provided a satisfactory ending, one that will tie up loose ends, they made it in such a way that the story may still continue if they got the renewal. He said that although they were very satisfied with how the series turned out, they were definitely interested in doing another season.

One of the reasons why the CBS executives cancelled the series was due to its low ratings. The season 3 finale, however, indicated that the show has a dedicated following. Although the producers have remained firm in their decision to cancel the show, some fans cannot help but wonder if there were stories that the writers have yet to explore.

Given the opportunity, Baer shared that he wanted to bring some of the old cast members back, including Angie, Linda, Dodee and Reverend Coggins. He added that it would be interesting to have a single episode where they could bring Dodee or Angie back in avator form and they will just be haunting Big Jim.
