"Roseanne" actor John Goodman joins the growing cast ensemble of Jordan Vogt-Roberts' upcoming action adventure film "Kong: Skull Island."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Goodman is set to play the role of a government official who leads the expedition to the titular island. However, it was not revealed if Goodman's character is a force of life or force of evil in the upcoming film.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Goodman is known for his roles in Matt Williams' comedy drama "Roseanne," Joel Coen's comedy crime "The Big Lebowski," Pete Docter and David Silverman's animated film "Monsters, Inc.," and Ben Affleck's drama thriller "Argo."

As per Superhero Hype, Goodman also had some dinosaur experience in his role as Fred Flinstone in Brian Levant's "The Flintstones" in 1994, which makes the actor fit in Vogt-Roberts' upcoming "Kong: Skull Island."

Aside from "Kong: Skull Island," Goodman is also set to appear in a number of films, including Mark Cullen and Robb Cullen's comedy film "Going Under," Jessie Nelson's comedy "Love the Coopers," Dan Trachtenberg's thriller film "Valencia," Jericca Cleland and Kevin Munroe's action adventure animated film "Ratchet and Clank," and Jay Roach's biopic "Trumbo."

"Kong: Skull Island" serves as the origin story of the iconic gorilla King Kong. Set in the 1970 Detroit, the film features the mysterious titular island, which is believed to be populated by different kinds of monsters and creatures. Aside from Hiddleston, "Kong: Skull Island" also stars Brie Larson, Corey Hawkins, John Reilly, Samuel Jackson, and Tom Wilkinson, among others.

"The Kings of Summer" director Vogt-Roberts is set to helm the film while "Godzilla" writer Max Borenstein and "Jurassic World" writer Derek Conolly are on board to pen the screenplay. Alex Garcia, Eric McLeod, Jon Jashni, Mary Parent, and Thomas Tull will co-produce the forthcoming film. The film is assumed to commence shooting this fall.

The project shifted from Universal Pictures to Warner Bros. to be in line with the studio's plotted monster cinematic universe. At the moment, exact details on the plot, additional characters, and cast are yet to be revealed.

Vogt-Roberts' "Kong: Skull Island" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Mar. 10, 2017.
