The comedy film "Goodbye Mr. Loser," helmed by Yan Fei and Peng Damo, could be the dark horse in the National Day holiday film season, which will commence on Oct. 1.

Top-billed by comedians Shen Teng and Ma Li, the film is an adaptation of a theater play of the same name. The story follows a middle-aged loser who traveled back magically to his 1997 teenage body.

As he was equipped with knowledge as an adult, he was able to win the love of his school's prettiest gal. He also became a superstar after plagiarizing hit songs that gained nationwide recognition during his adult period.

The film is regarded as private theater play outfit Mahua FunAge's biggest drama hit.

The main stars of the title rose to fame because of the theater play productions.

Because of the original theater play's popularity, "Goodbye Mr. Loser" has gathered a huge fan base. Observers said that the title could still sell well in the upcoming "gold week" despite fierce competition, citing that it may benefit from the long-term word-of-mouth effect.

The upcoming holiday week is expected to see a tight competition between the comedy smash "Lost in Hong Kong," which has already broken a number of box-office records, and the much anticipated fantasy adventure film, "Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe."

The film's directors said that they predicted to receive more good reviews than box-office revenues.

"After all, this is our first time to do a movie, and we are just elementary school pupils in this industry," Yan and Peng shared.

"Goodbye Mr. Loser" held advanced screenings and premiered in Beijing last weekend.
