"Hannibal" actor Mads Mikkelsen might not actually appear in Scott Derrickson's upcoming Marvel Comics film "Doctor Strange."

Mikkelsen was reported to play the role of Mephisto or Dormammu in Derrickson's forthcoming film. In his interview with Mtime, MIkkelsen said that reports saying that he would be part of "Doctor Strange" were rumors. However, the actor added that he was waiting on a phone call.

MIkkelsen also shared his thoughts about nabbing a role in Marvel's Cinematic Universe. The actor said that it would have been fascinating to be a part of Marvel's family, as it was something people had grown up with. He added that while there had been various heroes, the Sorcerer Supreme was absolutely one of the more exciting things.

According to Cinema Blend, Mikkelsen's statement could be interpreted in various ways, not to mention how the entertainment realm works. The publication mentioned that one possibility was that Marvel Studios had not contacted the actor. It is also feasible that Mikkelsen is presently in talks with the Studio. This is similar to the case of Rachel McAdams, who broke his silence about her inclusion in the upcoming film.

Aside from Bryan Fuller's television series "Hannibal," Mikkelsen is known for his roles in Antoine Fuqua's action adventure "King Arthur," Martin Campell's action thriller "Casino Royale," and Thomas Vinterberg's drama film "The Hunt." Aside from Derrickson's "Doctor Strange," Mikkelsen is set to appear in Gareth Edward's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

Meanwhile, "Doctor Strange" will showcase an origin story of Doctor Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon who loses his hands' fine motor skills after an accident. He meets the Ancient One, a master of magic who trains him to become the Sorcerer Supreme and defend the world from evil.

Along with Mikkelsen, "Doctor Strange" also stars McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme.

Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Nov. 4, 2016.
