Marvel's upcoming film "Thor: Ragnarok" has found its filmmaker, "Eagle vs. Shark" director Taika Waititi.
According to The Wrap, Waititi is in talks with Marvel Studios to helm its third installment of the "Thor" film franchise. The publication also mentioned that Waititi has topped "Zombieland" director Ruben Fleischer for the directorship on the forthcoming comic book film. At this point, he stands as the successor of Kenneth Branagh, who directed "Thor," and Alan Taylor, who directed "Thor: The Dark World."
Aside from his romantic comedy film "Eagle vs. Shark," Waititi is also known for his work, including the horror comedy "What We Do in the Shadows," and drama comedy "Boy." Aside from Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok," the director is also set to helm the comedy film "Hunt for the Wilderpeople," which is set to premiere in 2016.
With Waititi and Fleischer being considered by Marvel Studios to helm its third "Thor" film, not to mention that they also excel in directing films of the comedy genre, it is assumed that Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok" is going to have a light tone, according to Cinema Blend. The publication added that this possible tone of the upcoming film would be odd, since the third film centers on catastrophic events.
In the comic books, Ragnarok refers to an epic battle tossed by the god of mischief, Loki. The battle is said to lead to death and destruction of Asgard and the regions that surround it.
Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as the god of thunder Thor while Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Thor's wicked brother, Loki. Jaimie Alexander is also set to appear in the film, playing the role of Lady Sif.
Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Nov. 3, 2017.
