Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly planning to make an offer to Manchester City for striker Sergio Agüero as a potential replacement if ever Arsenal's move for Uruguayan star Edinson Cavani pushes through when the transfer window re-opens this January.

Soccer Rumours reported that City has "slapped a €54 million price tag" on Agüero and that the 27-year-old Argentina international is keen on signing up with Les Parisiens as well.

However, several football analysts have remarked that €54 million is too low for a player of Agüero's caliber and that Manchester City could be in danger of having declined performances in the long run if they let him go.

Former Liverpool standout Jamie Carragher said that the reported price "will not make up for losing him," referring to the Argentine forward.

Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Gary Neville opined that the Buenos Aires native "adds so much to Manchester City that it would be ludicrous for them to sell him now."

The Citizens are currently not playing well in the domestic league, although they have managed to bounce back and retake Premier League leadership with a recent 6-1 win over Newcastle United courtesy of Agüero's five-goal haul in 23 minutes, the fastest in league history.

Prior to that, Manuel Pellegrini's men lost to West Ham and Tottenham in lackluster fashion, which triggered rumors of a possible roster change for the Etihad giants.

Caught Offside noted that Agüero is an upgrade over Cavani, who had not been in top form at Parc des Princes as he struggled to play with Zlatan Ibrahimović and Ezequiel Lavezzi up front.

PSG is said to be keen on keeping up with their policy of acquiring top players to remain dominant in France and to improve in the Champions League and bringing in Agüero is the answer to their needs.
